One mistake
shouldn’t cost a
child their future.

When children enter the justice system alone,
one moment can shape their whole future.

Your donation helps protect them in court,
keep them out of unnecessary detention, support
their healing, and push for a system that gives them
a real second chance.

Who we are

Ikoku is working to transform Uganda’s juvenile system. We provide legal aid and psychosocial support to children in conflict with the law.

We train stakeholders working within the juvenile justice system and advocate for reform to ensure no child is forgotten.
We believe every child deserves a second chance to thrive!

Our philosophy is rooted in the principles of child-centered justice. Where protection, empathy & fairness guide our actions. We strive to create a legal system where justice is defined by restoration not punishment.

A child's first encounter with

Justice should never feel like the end of their story.

Yet too often, it does.

We intervene at that critical point before fear becomes conviction, before mistakes become labels by ensuring children are heard, guided, and given a real chance to recover and rebuild.

Hear from those who believe in our mission

“ I didn’t understand what was happening in court and I was scared. Having someone explain things and speak for me made me feel like I wasn’t alone. ’’
“When I first came, I was always angry. The games and sessions helped me think before I act. I learned how my choices affect others. Now I feel more in control of myself.’’
“I used to think taking a case to court was the only option. Now I see there are other ways to handle children’s cases without making things worse for them.’’

We are committed to accountability, transparency, and ensuring that every contribution creates meaningful and lasting impact.

Yes. Donors may choose to support a specific program or initiative aligned with their interests and values. This may include legal representation for children, diversion and child-friendly justice trainings, psychosocial support, rehabilitation activities, life skills programs, or community awareness initiatives. We are happy to discuss giving options and help you direct your contribution to the area you are most passionate about.

We work with children in conflict with the law 12-17 years, particularly those within Uganda’s juvenile justice system. Our work also involves engaging families, communities, law enforcement officers, local council courts, probation officers, legal practitioners, schools, and other stakeholders to promote child-friendly justice, rehabilitation, protection, and reintegration for children.
